The land on which Jack's Ridge now stand once formed part of the headquarters of the retreating Japanese forces towards the end of World War II. The Americans had landed in Davao on May 1, 1945, forcing the Japanese to beat a path to Matina Hills where they had a commanding view of the Davao Gulf where the American ships were anchored. -- taken from this link.
I'd like to think that this telescope was already there during the World War II and was used by the Japanese in their fight against the Americans. What a treat it would be if I actually photographed something that belonged during that time. It may be a far shot but who knows?:) Now that Jack's Ridge has become a popular destination for tourists, the telescope is used for those who want a better view of of the city lights below. A look costs only 10 PHP per 3 minutes(if I remember correctly).

What a neat shot! Makes those binoculars look like they're about a 100 feet tall!
Nice shot!
Excellent photo! I love reading about history with the photos. I also did stuff WWII oriented. I hope you get a chance to visit and leave your link. :)
